Washington DC

Posted on Sep 29th, 2006 by Harmony : Delight Harmony

Today wrapped up a seven-day-long  intense technical training for me in the U.S. capital - Washington D.C. How appropriate that I am here today - Senate is supposed to wrap up their working session until beginning of November, when they convene again for a week. Keep you fingers crossed and do a lot of calling to make sure the 1915 passes in November. There is so much love for horses in this beautiful country! Keep it going, friends. Love - yours in heart - Harmony

Do you happen to know, or know how to find out what day they will be voting? I would love to be there for the rally. It is a historic time for horses and humans alike.

It seems that there was a “clerical error” that might postpone the vote:

Shelly, it looks like the forces in Washington that are against this bill are using all forces in their book to push the bill until next year. At that time, there will be a whole new batch of legislators in session. Do you guys have any additional ideas on how we can materialize the bill to take place? Also, we need to work on the demand. If the demand wanes, the supply will follow. I am not sure that people are considering alternatives, when the horse tartare sounds so yummy to a wealthy Frenchman or Japanese. I have heard that in the Netherlands, they deem horse flesh a yummy breakfast food. Any ideas on how to stop the demand? Love, Harmony

If the people eating it knew how chemically tainted the meat is, they would certainly think twice about consuming. Average horsepeople are notorious for worming their horses every 2-3 months, vaccinating twice a year and administering anti-inflammatories, anti-biotics and anti-anxiety drugs at the first sight of a runny nose, cut, swollen leg or nervous breath. It's crazy how filled with chemicals most horses are….and still people want to eat that? I personally think that the meat brokers keep that a little secret so that the demand doesn't drop.

We have been doing a great job of manifesting support for this legislation. Look how much more attention and celebrity support there is since we started talking about this a few months ago. I trust that our thoughts are creating the goal we desire. Keep talking to everyone you cross paths with, educate, and hold the vision of a horses world wide being treated with dignity and respect. See them in loving homes and having kind treatment after their current careers have ended. See Bo and the others having HUGE success with their lobbying. See the vote going forth in the Senate this November and passing unanimously. Even if the vote gets pushes back, see even more government officials that are in support of the anti-slaughter campaign being elected in. Together we can and are making this a reality!

Lets start talking about rehabilitating horses into new careers and starting sanctuaries and rehab centers now…. as if this law already exists. If horsepeople have a place to send their horses that are both affordable and convenient, they won't need to send them to slaughter any longer. Let's create industry for horses by the horsepeople. When horsemen can start making money by rehabbing and retiring injured horses, there will be a market for them that is more valuable than slaughter. I know it shouldn't have to be about money but for so many it is. Solve the financial problem and you solve the in-humane problem. That is where I am focusing until a shift in consciousness can take firm hold.
